Never mind the color of the kitchen as long as it’s white. This is how a textbook of Finnish kitchen design could begin. Even though in recent years we have noticed an increasing number of kitchens in black, natural wood colors and other shades leaving our production facilities, it seems that white in its various shades and forms is by far the Finnish favorite. Year on year, a white kitchen seems to be a safe choice that doesn’t go out of fashion.
A white kitchen seems to be a safe choice that doesn’t go out of fashion
Even though a white kitchen is a best-seller and the safest color, this doesn’t mean it should be considered a boring choice. White is certain to create an interesting personalized concept with carefully considered details. A white kitchen is fresh and light. White can bring a sense of space to the smallest kitchen.
Just as with many other kitchens, there are plenty of choices in designing a white kitchen. A white kitchen can be ultramodern with shiny flat doors and vitreous quartz surfaces. At the other extreme, it can be a rustic romantic dream seasoned with grooved oak panel doors and glazed with ornamental moldings. Here, too, the style is determined not by the color but by your preferences and the guidelines set by your home.
A completely white kitchen can be a powerful, modern and impressive sight. Everything from doors to kitchen counters and from the floor to gaps between the furniture is white. A completely white kitchen is not everyone’s cup of tea, but in the right space and use it can be just the right choice!
You can add a touch of flavor
If a completely white kitchen is too much for you, but you don’t want to compromise on lightness, you can add a touch of flavor with a marble pattern kitchen counter or intermediate space. A marble pattern brings surfaces suitably to life and adds an interesting contrast to the eye. There are many different shades of white and mixing them can create an interesting look.
These days you can see plenty of kitchens featuring black details to highlight the white. Everything else can be white but how about a black sink and faucet? In the right place, black home appliances might work as black focal points in a white kitchen. One interior design rule is that there should always be at least one, but preferably several, black details which can lead the eye to everything else in the kitchen.
The best thing about a white kitchen is that it’s easy to give it a different look
A white kitchen can provide an opportunity and the freedom to decorate the place otherwise in any color whatsoever. Besides a few details in black, bright red, for example, could be a bold and invigorating color in a white kitchen. A serene ambience can be achieved by putting a sisal mat on the floor and wooden tableware on the shelves. Concrete-colored kitchen counters and lights could be a great combination for that serene ambience. Or how about a bright white kitchen against a dark blue or black wall?
For fans of shades of hemp, turquoise tiling in the intermediate gaps or pastel curtains could be a superb choice. There are many white styles but the best thing about a white kitchen is that it’s easy to give it a different look. A change of curtains, a painted wall or a new colorful floral arrangement can greatly change the mood. Would a white kitchen be just right for you? Only you can tell.

Scandinavian kitchen
A Scandinavian kitchen is traditionally white, linear and possibly combined with wood in natural color. Efforts have been made to copy this style around the world!
More and more Finnish homes are dreaming of a black kitchen. The emergence of black kitchens began several years ago and they can already be called the new kitchen classic. Black gives interior design a poise and has now finally moved from being an accent color to play a leading role in kitchens, too. Black is an opportunity and there are many styles. For years, white has been the prevailing kitchen color and norm. Perhaps this is why for many, a black kitchen seems a big step outside their comfort zone. All the same, we can note that it’s a step worth taking!
PieSmall kitchens are a challenge even for experienced kitchen designers, who aim to solve the lack of space in the most practical way possible. When designing a small kitchen it’s a good idea to especially think about the functions necessary for the functioning of the kitchen.
